Support Vestoj
After two strong issues, both very well received by the fashion industry, academia and readers alike, we’re now entering into a phase of fund raising in order to continue the work we have begun.
Considering our singular position in the market, an official patron of Vestoj's is set to be a fashion world leader - a company or individual that understands and encourages editorial freedom as well as debate and critique and that does so in a challenging, genuine and inclusive way. The prime motivators of the Vestoj initiative is creative freedom and an inquisitive mind, and as we operate without advertising and as a non-profit organisation, we’re aiming to instead develop a ‘soft’ approach to sponsorship and a relationship between Vestoj and its patrons that remains refined and sophisticated, a tactic and approach designed to benefit both us and our supporters as much as possible.
Vestoj has, in a short space of time, become known as a forum that encourages meetings between people: between students and professionals, between academics and the industry and between business people and creatives, and as we enter the phase of our third issue we have created a platform that is vibrant, dynamic and open-minded. We have an editorial advisory board containing some of the most prominent people in both the fashion industry and academia and we have so far received an incredibly positive response by readers all over the world, as well as consistently good reviews in the press.
However, to uphold the standards that we have set ourselves and the high quality that we have become known for, as well as the creative freedom and independence of thought that we are able to offer our contributors, we are required to remain independent. This is why we’re now encouraging companies, foundations, institutions and private individuals aligned with our message to contribute to supporting a truly unique initiative.
About our next issue
Following 'fashion and nostalgia' and 'fashion and magic', our third issue is on ‘fashion and shame’. What is shameful in fashion you may ask - a whole lot we have discovered! This issue will deal with all from personal accounts of body issues and sexuality to modesty in dress and religious fashion, prison uniforms, TV makeovers, colonial slave markets and nudity versus nakedness and look closer at designers such as Thierry Mugler, Comme des Garçons and Hussein Chalayan, and features such esteemed contributors as Professor Reina Lewis, Dr Joanne Entwistle, Dr Brenda R. Weber, Buck Angel, Marya Hornbacher, Donatien Grau, Camille Vivier, Max Farago, Blommers/Schumm, Jessica Craig-Martin, Jen Davis and Matthias Vriens-McGrath amongst many others.
Why fund us?
Vestoj is today the sole fashion publication that engages equally with the contemporary fashion industry and with the academic world. Our approach moves between the personal and the scholarly, and we give our contributors the maximum amount of creative freedom within our editorial framework. With no advertising, no news-based articles and no clothing credits, we aim to show that fashion and dress mean vastly more than buying the latest It-bag. Fashion is one of the most important arenas in contemporary culture, and through juxtaposing the academic world and the fashion industry we promote a multidisciplinary approach to our topic. We want to show that fashion should, indeed, be taken seriously.
How we’ll use the money
Every issue of Vestoj is thoroughly researched in order to find the most relevant angles and the most suitable contributors. Each issue offers a new format, lay-out and art direction, produced to be aligned with the theme and to always offer the reader a completely new experience. With this in mind, the funding we receive will go to cover our basic printing and production costs.
